Famous comedy group AIB has always been highly vocal about feminism, women empowerment and gender equality. However, the recent #MeToo movement in India has shaken the base of company. An AIB comedian Utsav Chakraborty was alleged for cyber se*ual harassment for which he had to face heavy trolling.
AIB group took no time in announcing their dissociation with the comedian. However, what followed next was even more troubling for the group. It was revealed that Tanmay Bhat, who is one of the founders, CEO and also the face of AIB already knew about the actions of Utsav but didn’t take any strong action. On his part, Tanmay said-
After confronting Utsav, he said he sent the picture by accident, later called the victim crying, apologizing, hence harassing her further. I should’ve ended ties then, and I didn’t, and it is my fault. I’m truly sorry. I should’ve acted stronger.

Following this, another founder of AIB, Gursimran Khamba was also alleged for se*ual harassment by one of his female friend. Keeping anonymous, she had said that Khamba tried to take se*ual advances of her on two separate occasions and she had to forcefully push him away. Later, he started to call her threatening to ruin friendship and also emotionally blackmailed and emotionally abused her for almost five months. Khamba apologized for his bad behaviour but denied breaking the barrier of consent. Sharing his side, he said-
Following all this, AIB recently announced that Tanmay will be stepping away from his responsibilities and even Khamba will be leaving the company until the investigation is complete. A statement shared by AIB said that they are now uncertain about the future of AIB and rest of the two founders, Rohan and Ashish will be answering the media queries. The statement read as-
“We have been closely monitoring the sequence of events on social media around the allegations against AIB and also our Co-founder and CEO, Tanmay Bhat. We cannot overlook Tanmay’s role and in light of this, he will be stepping away from his association with AIB until further notice. This implies that Tanmay will not be involved in the day to day functioning of AIB or in any other manner.
We have also just been appraised of the allegations against Gursimran Khamba on social media. At this point in time, these allegations pertain to a private matter and he has released a statement on his own about the same. However, as an organisation, we believe that it would be prudent to place Gursimran Khamba on a temporary leave of absence until we have more clarity on the matter.
We understand that disconcert of any kind adversely affects the work culture and creates an unsafe space for our employees. Nobody should have to work in an environment such as that and we hope to enable measures to establish our commitment to creating a gender sensitive workspace. We are in the process of consulting various experts to ensure that our work culture incorporates sensitivity, inclusivity, respect and fairness.
As mentioned, at this time, both of our senior partners are immediately stepping away from all business at AIB. Truthfully, we do not know what this means for the future of AIB or whether there is one. In the interim, Ashish Shakya, Rohan Joshi and other senior team members will work towards being able to answer that question over the next several months.”
Ever since both of them have left the group, netizens are busy trolling them especially Tanmay. Have a look at some of the reactions-
@AGirlOfHerWords Just going to leave this here @thetanmay is an example of both irony and hypocrisy. And now that he has been called out he distances himself by saying he fired the guy BUT continued working with him in a freelance capacity! #MeTooIndia #AllIndiaBakchod pic.twitter.com/ayaRokjHyu

Last year Tanmay Bhat was preaching Morality that one should speak up against harassments but he kept silent on his friend Utsav's sexual harassment cases and continued to work with him.

hey asshole @thetanmay you will soon be going to jail, just tweeting to warn you that don't try your sick humor there, inmates are far far less tolerant than people here on twitter. And one more thing, never try to pick someone's soap if it falls on the floor.

Tanmay Bhat's response in the second screenshot makes me ill. Ladies, have you lost track of the times a male friend told you to 'chill' when you say something against a creep he's friends with? Yup. Same. Our discomfort means nothing to them. https://t.co/5yYXcyOLZo

During Arunabh Kumar incident, @thetanmay was preaching "As entrepreneurs it is our duty to make women feel safe". People trusted him but he was just saying it to increase his brand value. He never believed in what he was preaching. pic.twitter.com/CLS0oBEg8I
