Bollywood comedian and actor Rajpal Yadav was given a jail term of 6 months in the cheque bounce case. The actor along with his wife took a loan of 5 crores in 2010 for his directorial debut Ata Pata Lapata. The film released in 2012 but Rajpal failed to repay the amount of around 8 crores including principal.
The 6 month sentence was announced by Karkardooma Court. However, he got the bail later on the personal bond of Rs 50,000. Rajpal Yadav was also fined a total amount of Rs 11.2 crores for the total 7 cases filed against him. Reportedly, he will have to pay Rs 1.6 crore for each case.
Rajpal’s wife got some relief as she was asked to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakhs.
Talking about the court’s decision, Rajpal Yadav said that he will move to a higher court for justice. He was quoted as saying by India Today-
“I respect the court’s judgement. I will appeal in the higher court.”
The case was filed by Delhi-based company Murli Projects from which Rajpal Yadav had taken the loan.
