There has been a lot of excitement around the next Bollywood film of Priyanka Chopra. The stunning actress who has been completely devoted to Hollywood industry since last couple of years was expected to make a big announcement soon.
There were rumours about Priyanka being cast in Salute i.e the upcoming biopic of Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma. Some reports also suggested that Priyanka will play Kalpana Chawla in her upcoming biopic. However, the actress has now confirmed that she has signed Bharat which stars none other than Salman Khan in lead.
Priyanka and Salman have worked together in many films earlier like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, God Tusi Great Ho and Salaam-E-Ishq. This will be their 4th association together.
Bharat is being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and Priyanka has worked with him in Gunday previously.
Confirming the news, Priyanka told Mumbai Mirror-
“I’m looking forward to working with Salman and Ali after a considerable time. I’ve learnt a lot from them during our previous collaborations and I am excited to see what this one has to offer. I’m also looking forward to working with Atul, Alvira and the entire team. To all my well-wishers who have been patient and supportive, thank you for your constant support and I’ll see you at the movies.”
Ali Abbas Zafar also confirmed. He said-
“Bharat is Priyanka’s homecoming to Bollywood after having proved herself as a performer in a global TV show, Quantico, and in Hollywood. Bharat is rooted in India and its culture, spans over seven decades and travels across the world. Priyanka is the biggest Indian artist globally today and a perfect fit for the film as she brings to the table her incredible talent and international appeal. Bharat is a mature, subtle love story and her character is the soul of the film. She stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Salman in his journey and is the catalyst who triggers what will be a turning point in the plot.”
Bharat has just gone on floors and Salman Khan has started shooting for it. Ali Abbas Zafar shared the pic on Instagram-
Bharat is the Hindi remake of South Korean film, Ode to my Father. Producer Atul Agnihotri and director Ali had travelled to NY to narrate the script to Priyanka. A source told-
“She loved the script and immediately gave her nod. Salman and Priyanka will be teaming up after 10 years, making the association all the more special.”
Talking about the film and signing Priyanka for it, Atul said-
“Bharat starts in 1947 and ends in 2000. It is the journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the name of Bharat. We are very happy to welcome Priyanka to the Bharat family. We couldn’t have asked for anyone better to play the role.”
Now that’s some big news. We can’t wait for Priyanka to land in India and spend enough time in the country shooting for the film.
